P.H.E.P. NEEDS YOUR HELP!

The Penokee Hills Education Project (PHEP) will be visiting New Hampton – Lawler Iowa area on February 17, 18, & 19. PHEP is a non-profit organization located in Ashland, WI. Our mission is simple: Protecting the Wisconsin’s water and wetlands. This watershed is the homeland of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, provides drinking water for the city of Ashland, contains 40% of the wetlands feeding Lake Superior and the largest natural wild rice beds in the Great Lakes. This is Wisconsin’s “Everglades of the North” of the North.

P.H.E.P. needs your help!

A CAFO, designed to raise pigs will be coming to Bayfield County Wisconsin. PHEP will be preparing reports to be shared with, towns, city, county governments, and interested citizens at public forums. We need to learn about potential impacts on our water resources, land values, transportation infrastructures, drinking water and energy consumption. Fertilizer use, pesticides, and medications to maintain these large factory operations and their impacts on the ecosystem have raised many more questions.

P.H.E.P. needs your stories!

Tell us what works to protect your resources or tell us what we need to consider as we prepare for our first real CAFO in the Northwoods.

PHEP will hold a public listening forum at the New Hampton, Iowa Public Library Thursday, February 19th from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. We will be in the area February 17th – 19th. - For more information or to schedule an individual meeting contact: Frank Koehn frankjkoehn@gmail.com, 218.341.8822 or 619 17th Ave. West, Ashland, WI
