Penokee Hills Education Project
The Mining Impact Coalition of Wisconsin, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization. Our mission is public education, networking, and grassroots organizing on the environmental, health, social, and economic issues of mining that disproportionately affect Native and rural populations. The Penokee Hills Education Project is an education and outreach project of the Mining Impact Coalition and is focused on issues related to the proposed development of iron mining in northern Wisconsin. LCO Harvest and Education Learning Project (HELP)
HELP is a year-round learning facility located within the Penokee Hills, sponsored by the Lac Courte Oreilles Lake Superior Chippewa Band. Several individuals have been living in wigwams at the camp for almost one year, engaging in, and teaching about, seasonal harvesting and subsistence living. HELP camp is open to the public and accepts donations of firewood, food, etc., and also accepts monetary contributions.
